Now in its 30th year, the 2018 Queensland Mining Industry Health and Safety Conference returns to The Star Gold Coast from August 19 to 22.

As one of the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere, up to 700 delegates across the country are expected to attend the four-day conference themed ‘Realising Opportunities Together’.

With a compelling panel of keynote speakers on board, conference co-chair Luca Rocchi said their aim for the upcoming event was to spark forward thinking among delegates and foster proactive health and safety management techniques in the Queensland mining sector.

“This year’s theme focuses on working together to realise and identify opportunities for improvement in mining health and safety,” Mr Rocchi said.

“As the resources sector grows, it is important that we stay across the latest in health and safety management and share this with the rest of the industry, to improve overall standards.

“The conference brings the mining community together – it is where representatives, decision makers and industry leaders gather to exchange information, network, listen to insightful presentations on current topics and bring the hard issues to surface.”

This year’s program will feature presentations from industry leaders including: Commissioner for Mine Safety and Health, Kate du Preez; 6-time Bathurst winner and OAM recipient, Craig Lowndes; Founder of Heart of Australia, Dr Rolf Gomes; Managing Director of Brady Heywood, Dr Sean Brady; Barrister at Crown Law, John Tate, interviewing the last Mining Warden, Frank Windridge; and Chief Executive Officer of MATES in Mining, Andrew McMahon. The Conference program will also see ABC Radio Brisbane and Queensland Presenter, Kelly Higgins-Devine, host the popular facilitated session with Dr Robert Cohen and a panel of medical, health and mining experts discussing Disease Prevention in the Workplace.

With over 40 individual industry presentations, a safety training workshop, trade displays, 8 exhibitor presentations, the announcement of the industry’s Innovation and Health Program Awards at the conference dinner, there are plenty of opportunities to collaborate, network and upskill.
